David Keener
Ballet Instructor
(July 7 through July 12)

Mr. Keener held full and part time positions with prestigious organizations including my most recent affiliation with the Alabama School of Fine Arts, where he was Chair of the Dance Department. Prior to joining ASFA,.he was Director of the Dance at the Virginia School of the Arts. the VSA gained a national and international reputation for excellence in dance training. It's long and impressive list of alumnae with professionals' affiliations includes American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet, The Washington Ballet, Houston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Alonso King’s Lines Ballet, River North Chicago Dance Company, Sacramento Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Nevada Ballet Theatre, Orlando Ballet and several other professional dance organizations. Universities and Conservatories include Julliard, Ailey-Fordham, Butler, Boston Conservatory, NYU, University of Utah, and more.

Mr. Keener had the privilege of creating a contemporary production of Romeo and Juliet for Ballet Clasico Nacional Republica Dominicana which premiered at the Teatro Nacional Santo Domingo, September 2007. The production was not only well received by audiences and dance critics, but also received the honor of a Casandra Award for Best Classical and/or Contemporary Production 2007.

His professional affiliation with American Ballet Theatre's JKO School enabled him to introduce their "Project Plie" into ASFA's community based Preparatory Ballet Program. Project Plie is a new and integrated program that provides ballet training to underserved kids.

Mr. Keener is an ABT Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level Seven and Partnering of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. He is on the ABT NTC National Artistic Board of Examiners. He has completed the RPM Teacher Training Course under the direction of Ruth C. Petrinovic.
